Heather Brown,

Information & Education Officer

Heather Brown
Hello, My name is Heather.

I have been with the Jennifer Trust almost since the beginning back in 1985. Initially I was a volunteer helping Anita with stalls at local fêtes and organising coffee mornings, and my husband Dave and I organised the children's trips and activities at Conference each year.

In the spring of 1991 Anita approached me and asked if I would come and work for the Trust for six months to help organise the 2nd European Conference which the Jennifer Trust hosted. Ten years on I am still here.

My rôle within the Trust has changed and developed over the years as the Jennifer Trust has grown. In the early days Anita and I shared a desk and we did everything ourselves. Today, with the number of staff now standing at eight, I have the title of Information & Education Officer.

If you are a family with a newly diagnosed child, or if you are an adult just diagnosed, I will probably be your first contact with the Trust. Hopefully I will be able to give you the support and information you need to help you deal with the diagnosis. I also hope I can be a friendly ear at the end of the phone at any time you need the help of The Jennifer Trust.

I have to say, though, I come as a package! My husband still coordinates the children's activities (although I am not allowed to go with him any more) and my daughters all come and help over the weekend and help out with fundraising events, etc.

Over the years I have done a number of things within the remit of my job descriptions, including being sawn in half, being the back end of a horse in a pantomime horse race, and have travelled to Holland and France for meetings. Who knows what the future has in stall for us all?

If you would like to contact me you can E-mail at heather@jtsma.org.uk or you can call me at the JTSMA office on 01789 267520.
